About us

The Finnish Artists’ Studio Foundation is a foundation established in 1990 that rents affordable facilities and studio apartments to professional visual artists. The Studio Foundation also promotes the conditions for visual artists’ work in other ways and provides expert services in questions related to visual artists’ facilities.

The Studio Foundation manages a total of 13 workspace facility and work-live apartment locations, 11 of which are owned by it. The locations are in Helsinki, Espoo, Turku, Kuopio and Grassina, Italy.

There are currently more than 350 professional visual artists working at our locations. The tenants are visual artists of different ages and at different stages of their careers, working using a diverse set of techniques.

The Studio Foundation is Finland’s most significant organisation specialising in facilities for visual artists. We support the vitality of Finnish contemporary art in a concrete manner, given that a high-quality, affordable and permanent facility is the most important tool for visual artists.

Our office is located in Vallila, Helsinki.

Statutes, strategy and board of directors of the Foundation

The Foundation’s statutes define the framework conditions for the operations of the Studio Foundation. The purpose of the Studio Foundation is to acquire and rent affordable facilities and studio apartments for visual artists, to support the ideological activities of the Artists’ Association of Finland, and to otherwise participate in improving the working conditions of visual artists. The purpose of the Foundation is not to achieve an immediate profit or economic advantage. Read more about the Studio Foundation’s statutes (only in Finnish)

The development of operations is guided by the Studio Foundation’s strategy, which was published in August 2025. Read the Studio Foundation’s strategy for 2025–2030 (only in Finnish)
